In this full day course on modern endodontics and restorative dentistry, a variety of topics will be presented. We will start with Dilemmas in treatment planning: retreatment versus implant placement, in which the treatment options for root-filled teeth with persisting or new apical periodontitis will be addressed. With the introduction of new technologies and biocompatible materials, it has become possible for the clinician to successfully treat endodontically compromised teeth. With the emergence of implants into the mainstream of dentistry, there has been more emphasis on long-term outcomes and on evaluating the restorability of teeth prior to endodontic treatment. Teeth that might have received endodontic treatment in the past are now extracted and replaced with implant-supported prostheses if they are marginally restorable or it makes more sense in the overall treatment plan. Patients are not well served if the endodontic treatment is successful but the tooth fails. In consequence, clinicians get confronted with dilemmas in treatment planning. On the basis of a variety of clinical cases, we will discuss several ways of approaching these dilemmas, and which treatment options are available for the cases shown.
In the second presentation, Marga Ree will address Contemporary restoration of endodontically treated teeth, a topic that remains controversial from many perspectives. The discussion will focus primarily on current clinical concepts based on the literature from the past 10 years, and will provide treatment guidelines based on that research. Topics to be discussed will include interaction between irrigation solutions and dentin bonding, the rationale for and against the use of posts, and the selection and use of composite core materials. Several cases will illustrate the various current clinical techniques.
In the afternoon, Problem solving in Endodontics will be the main topic, in which many tips and tricks will be shared to manage complications such as a broken file, a perforation or a calcified canal. In addition, management of cracked teeth will be discussed.
This course is designed for general practitioners and endodontists and provide you with the latest insights in many aspects of modern endodontics. The sessions will be interactive, and a variety of clinical cases will be shown to illustrate the current treatment procedures.
About the Speaker
Marga Ree, DDS, MSc obtained her degree in dentistry from the University of Amsterdam in 1979. For the next five years she was a part-time staff member of the department of Cariology Endodontology Pedodontology, as well as being a clinical instructor in the central dental clinic of the University of Amsterdam. In 1998 she entered a postgraduate programme in endodontics, which she completed in 2001 with a Master of Science degree. She is a popular speaker for dental and endodontic conferences, and has given over 200 presentations and hands-on courses in 30 countries all over the world. She is the primary author of several articles published in national and international journals and has contributed to several books on endodontics and restorative dentistry. Since 1980 she has had a private practice in Purmerend, which for the past nineteen years has been dedicated to endodontics
